Post-Anthropocene Prelude@Mercury#Can we seize the moment like white cranes {Base Station of Wind}
Mixed media Installation. 2.7m*1.6m*2.3m (the length of guqin 1.5m)
Jansword Zhu, Li Xingyu, 2022
A guqin that captures the wind creates a space dedicated to "moments". The work consists of an ultrasonic sensor (corresponding to the 13 Guqin “hui”, or notes), 3 lasers visible during the day, and a special film. When the wind moves the film, the sensor detects its position, converting distance data into sound. The strings will appear along with the film's movements. The work produces a unique sound and image for each moment, forming "a field of the Moment".
The guqin has a ritualistic purpose of connecting with Heaven and Earth since ancient times. This installation establishes a dialogue with Heaven through a new form of guqin. This piece, titled "Mercury", is part of the series of installations called "Post-Anthropocene Prelude" created by Jansword Zhu, inspired by his art history book "Invisible Z Axis: Art history through the lens of Astrological Archetype".
