Hyatt Centric Gaoxin Xi’an Murals & Art Director
Art Diretor / Mural Artist
2024
Xi'an
Jansword Zhu is the Art Director of Hyatt Centric Gaoxin Xi’an, overseeing the artistic direction of the project. The design not only reflects the historical charm of Xi’an, but also showcases the vitality and vibrancy of modern Xi’an in a contemporary way, creating a new hotel landmark in Xi’an High-tech Zone.
The giant murals at Hyatt Centric Gaoxin Xi’an stand out as the hotel's premier art attraction, and were created by Jansword Zhu. Stretching 61 meters in length and rising 5 meters in height, these murals embody the theme of "The Whisper of Silk and The Song of Horses." They artistically depict the historical origins of the Silk Road and the culturally rich city of Xi’an through a contemporary lens. The first section of the mural, resembling an abstract dragon head, draws inspiration from an engine. The second segment showcases three dynamic horses inspired by the Terracotta Army horse, jade horse, and horse stone carving in Xi’an, symbolizing the three dynasties (Qin, Han, Tang) that established their capital in Xi’an. The strokes within the circles are not arbitrary; they are derived from the cursive script of calligraphy master Zhang Xu during the Tang dynasty. This artwork illuminates the entire architecture designed by Japanese architect Kuma Kengo, embodying the essence of the Hyatt Centric brand: "To explore."
The work has won the Graphis Design Annual (Silver), the Italian A' Design Award (Gold), the Golden Pin Award, and many other awards.
